Catalogue of Holdings
(The writings of Rudolf Steiner)
This catalogue includes the writings of Rudolf Steiner and related
materials, primarily in English translations but also including original
German texts and some non-English translations, all as part of an ongoing
project to make this information available on the internet. Rudolf Steiner
was born in 1861 in Austria. His early education included home and local
schooling, followed by the Institute of Technology in Vienna and a Ph.D.
from the University of Rostock.
Between 1883 and his death in 1925, Rudolf Steiner worked as a writer
and lecturer, giving some 6000 lectures while writing hundreds of essays
and more than a score of books. While his works could be classified as
philosophical in nature, they encompass nearly every imaginable subject
including history, religion and the occult, education and human
development, sociology, sciences including medicine and agriculture,
and the arts. The lectures are transcriptions by individual attendees,
usually published without revision by Rudolf Steiner. The books and
essays were written for publication, with his involvement in the process.

Rudolf Steiner wrote more than two dozen books. As with his articles
and essays, Steiner was actively involved in making them compatible
with their printed form. Here we present them chronologically with a
short explanation for each.

Rudolf Steiner's lectures were intended for an audience, not printed
media. They are generally transcriptions by individual attendees,
published without revision by Dr. Steiner. Information on individual
lectures is available in our
Chronological Listings of Lectures, in

sequences. Lecture cycle information is made available using the
Database link, below.

Although Rudolf Steiner wrote many articles and essays, few have been
translated into English. Many are dated and seem not to receive top
priority from translators. Here we offer a list of some of them.

We have recently gathered all of the information we have, and loaded
it into a more “unified” database. This is the beginnings
of this project: it is always in a state of change as new information
adds to, or updates the old.
